After nearly 8 years of using since the Perodua Alza was first acquired finally one of the headlight bulb is dead. That is a very good original bulb with the description of WHEELS and 12 Volt 55 Watt H7 P26D. However i am not sure if the manufacturer of this bulb either Philips or Bosch and the original price seems to be around RM90+ each or around RM179 for two pieces. See below the original headlamp bulb for the low beam light which located at the very edge of all the lights. In the 2nd picture below it's on the left looking from front view.
The price is really worth the years how long this bulb can last and if you count by months it cost only RM2 per month. So RM179 for 2 pieces is still considerably cheap for original parts.
However I need it fast and end up looking in Mr.DIY only to find the cheapest H7 12V 55W PX26D halogen bulb cost around RM5.57 wow. Considering the urgency and nothing to lose price - i give this cheap bulb a try.
This is my first time opening the bulb casing so - got to be careful not to break anything. After going through the experience it turns out to be quite easy after all. See below how to open the casing cover of the headlight on the most left (at the edge) from front. See the open cap - just twist it a little bit clock wise and pull the cap off to expose the bulb.
Then pull off the connector from the bulb as shown below. Now difficult part a little - as you can see the bulb is being hold by clip holder and that need to be remove. Push the side of the clip anti-clock wise while lifting it a little bit. Once that clip is release the bulb is ready to be take off.
Before putting everything back in place - put in the new bulb into the connector socket and then start turn on the light to check the new bulb is working perfectly. During testing please careful 55 watt of power is very hot do not place the bulb near rubber or plastic because it will burn it pretty quick as it is very very hot. Once all is tested and good put the bulb back into the casing, and clip to secure it. Then put the connector cable and cover with the cap as it was. Everything should be good.
How to open the high beam headlight is pretty much the same for Perodua Alza car. The high headlight located in the middle between the low headlight and the hazard night light. The only difference it does not use clip and much easier to open. Just twist the cap clock wise and pull it off - then pull the bulb out of the casing and remove it from the connector. Change a new one and put back in everything should be good.

The H7 12V 55W PX26D halogen bulb is dead after 3.5 months of use. This proof that the RM5.90 bulb is no match to the original bulb which lasted 7 years
ReplyDeleteI want to change the high light lamp..but i try to pull the bulb out but it wont be easy.. Its to tight..how do u pull it out?? Because i can see that there was something like a clip that hold it up..
ReplyDeleteOh please don't pull without removing the clip first. The clip you need to push to the left or right a little bit and then pull out..once the clip release the bulb then you can pull out the bulb.
DeleteThe clip is to hold the bulb holder firmly. You use a flashlight to see exactly how the clip is holding the bulb holder.
You see the 5th picture from the top how the clip hold the bulb holder...just push a little to the left if looking from the picture. and then pull out the clip once it release then u can pull out the bulb
DeleteThe halogen bulbs H7 looks like the same for both headlight and high beam. Can anyone confirm this? I'd like to change to LEDs for all four. Also what's the model of ofthe bulb for the small fog lamp?
ReplyDeleteFog lamp using H3 bulb see here Alza fog light bulb
DeleteThe bulb I bought was blue in colour for the same price but it wasn't as bright as the original and then it started smoking.I quickly pulled it out but burnt my finger in the process. Don't think I'm would try it again.
ReplyDeleteYou neglect the safety do not hole 55 watt bulb - it's like solder iron. Anything less than 5 watt is safe for you to hold.
DeleteYou should not pull the bulb instead turn it off from the on off toggle in your car just like how you on off while driving
