The first major problem i've experience with this laptop is the faulty keyboard. The keyboard constantly auto-type a character of the particular key which is spoiled. For example if your p alphabet key is spoiled then it will keep auto-type "p" non-stop constantly as long as the computer is turn on. From what i have read online there are bunch of people having similar problems complaining to HP about this.
The second major problem about this laptop is the CMOS battery holder. It is so fragile that if you are not careful to remove the CMOS battery, it will also remove battery holder from the motherboard. When it happens there is very small chance to fix it. This is because the motherboard connector to the CMOS battery holder has certain layer of electronic pathway that can only be done by factory soldering and cannot be re-attached using normal solder. This is what happen to my Compaq Presario 2500 now is faulty forever.
Never buy Compaq because it simply sucks. Even Acer brand is much better.
Thank you for your blog, it's been very helpful!

Hi eygenia it seems to me your computer suffer the same fate as mine and i have wrote 2 bad thing about the compaq presario laptop Two bad thing about compaq presario 2500"
DeleteYour CMOS/BIOS battery holder is gone / come off from the motherboard this is the picture you ask me to mark BIOS battery
From the picture you can see there is a word that says BT 1 which meant battery 1 and i believe that is the place where the BIOS battery holder should be.
If you don't mind could you tell me what happen to your laptop? was it okay before that without the BIOS battery?
Hello Meiji, thanks!
DeleteThe laptop works fine but I have forgotten the BIOS password that I enabled several years ago, it turns on normally and it prompts for the pass. This is the reason that I opened it, to "reset" it from the battery
...and nothing was dropped as I was opening the case. The specific place was empty as is on the pic
DeleteWhat is the exact model of your compaq presario?

I am pretty sure the place of the CMOS battery is the one i've pointed out earlier...but it is not impossible it could be placed somewhere else...try to look for any component that resemble a coin battery for example as follows
DeleteBios battery
Bios battery 2
Bios battery 3
Find either at the top or bottom of the motherboard
