Solution to this problem

1. Download java mysql connector
2. Once downloaded unzip the file and copy the Java mysql connector for example I've downloaded mysql-connector-java-5.1.24-bin
3. Paste it to the pdi-ce-6.0.1.0-386 library folder for example C:\Users\mypc\Desktop\pdi-ce-6.0.1.0-386\data-integration\lib



Restart the spoon.bat apps and re-run then re-establish a new mysql connection it should be successful this time see below

    1. You may check the following

      1. Ensure the mysql connector is copied to the correct folder
      2. Ensure your mySQL connection is correct i.e. username and password and port
      3. Ensure that your mysql is running and have a db in it as shown in the first screenshot example
