York Air Conditioner Yellow/Orange Light Blinking Problem

READ: York Airconditioner Green and Yellow LED blinking at the same time

It's really easy to conclude something wrong without even trying to check or try something to solve a problem. This is what happened to my York Air Conditioner with the yellow/orange light blinking which i thought it was faulty. Most people are complaining about the yellow light after trying to press some buttons on the remote control without trying to check the air conditioner itself. Some others are suggesting to clear the timer using the cancel timer button or press it for a few seconds to stop the yellow light. While there is also a suggestion to remove the battery from the remote control and put back before turning it on again. Probably it may work for some people I don't really know.

As for my case, this is definitely none of the remote control problems and I am not willing to spend money to fix a blinking yellow light like that and living in a room that facing the sunlight every day is really a pain in the ass. Every night the heat emanating from walls where the sunlight heated up every day and without the bubble wrap insulator it could easily heat up to 40 degrees Celsius during the hot day. This forced me to look into the problem myself and after all, it wasn't as bad as I thought. In fact, there was no difficult fix or complicated situation to get the green light turned on and get back the fan to cool mode again.

So this is what I did:

1. Open Up air conditioner cover again as I did on the "Cleaning York Air Conditioner" post.

2. Shake a little bit of the black wires/cable as shown here

how to fix york aircond noise

3. Tried to turn on the air conditioner on and off to test whether the Yellow light still coming up.

4. Then turn off completely the main switch

why york aircond make noise

5. Put back in all the covers and turn on the Air Conditioner.

6. The green light comes back and it started to cool down as it uses to be.

The problem could be the Sensor cable or whatever it is not functioning properly or maybe it kept the memory of the timer. So by shaking up some of the wires especially the black cable and turn it off by removing the plug from the wall socket simply help to recover it. You can try this before calling the technician someday.

    1. When you have that orange light comes out alternately even after you turned off and turn on the switch....it's because there is something wrong with the unit either the electronic inside or the sensor faulty. You will need technician to check it out....as for my case i didn't call up the technician and when the light turn orange again i will turn off the switch and turn on again...eventually somehow it works permanently until now ...not sure why!! strange thing happens sometimes

    1. Hi vinay plug out the power socket completely first for few seconds and put back on and try again...but if that still does not work you may need to check the motor start capacitor in the compressor unit...most likely it's the capacitor maybe faulty prevent the compressor unit to turn on its motor

  13. Whenever anything like this happens, my wife wants me to call someone to solve the problem. I have found that it is often a faulty connection, and it appears you had the same issue. Sensor cables and wires seem to wear out after a while, and they need to be replaced or reconnected. Thank you for posting a simple fix for this issue.

  15. Yellow LED blink for 3 times.
    The outdoor unit not running.
I do direct current on outdoor wire connection for checking outdoor unit functioning or not, it work as well.
But when i put it back on outdoor terminal, it not running again.

Is it capacitor problem? Yellow LED still blinking 3 times.

    1. It could be the sensor problem - do the following test before you replace the capacitor

      1. Open and clean the air filter
      2. Clean the cooling fin as well with wet cloth
      3. Put back everything in place
      4. Unplug it from power socket and leave it for 1 minute
      5. Plug in back the power and turn the aircond unit (Do step up 4 two or three times if still not working)

If the above step persistently not working it could be that the sensor is seriously faulty or the capacitor.

    2. How about sleep indicator at indoor blinking? Thanks for your reply

    3. There are few things that I've learned from the airconditioner unit and each of the problem are unique but the same light blinking.

Sleep indicator blinking problem could be caused

      1. The sensor is faulty - u can solved this by plug out the air conditioner from the power socket few second and put back in and on it again. Do few times if doesn't work

      2. Frozen piping - sometimes due to blocked system the air conditioner are blocked by frozen ice. And that caused the unit blinking

      3. Electronic board circuit path damaged - this one is more difficult to detect because some of the board are deep within the unit hidden from eyesight. Recently i have an airconditioner which the circuit board electrical path damaged by chemical spilled (spilled from the gas) and i have to call the technician to check and they found the circuit electrical path scrapped out due to chemical corrosion.

In order to check the air con unit you have to try and isolate problem one after another just like how the technician do it. First clean the filter and the fin, then try to plug out the power for a while and put back in.

When problem occur like blinking light or whatsoever - the electric current refuse to flow enough voltage to the outdoor unit sometimes no voltage at all. This is what i've learned from the technician. This cause the outdoor unit is not on and the air cond cannot get cold. The outdoor unit is the most important to blow the cold air in. While the indoor unit just passing the cold air to the surrounding.

  16. Hi there. I have almost the same problem. Only that my orange led that keep blinking. Anyhow I open up the cover as you suggested and try to wiggle the sensor cable when I notice that the copper pipe coming in or going out from the cooling coil is freezing. Is it normarly that way. Tq.

    1. I never experience such situation before ..perhaps you need to do something about the frozen copper otherwise the cool air not coming out of the aircond.

    2. Maybe the reason for frozen cooper from your unit is gas leaking..go check your pressure

  17. Hello my AC has a yellow light blinking after running for 10 minutes or so. I open the cover and try shaking the sensor cable while turning it on as you said. Then I notice that the copper pipe has something frozen on it. Is it normaly like that. Or there's something wrong please advice. Tq.

    1. Removed the plug temporarily from the power source and put back in after 10 seconds...if it's not working try again...but after a few try not working then it must be something wrong with the unit either the capacitor or the sensor completely faulty

  23. My air condition unit when is in cold mode keep both red and green light on and outside unit doesnt work.it works just fan and heat mode.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think you only need the green light to be on not the red. The red light indicate there is problem either the sensor or blocked piping.

Try to clean the filter and plug out the aircond from the power socket then put back everything in place and see if it works.

If it doesn't work try keep pulling out the power plug for few seconds and few times and try again.

If still not working there is something seriously wrong either the sensor completely faulty or the outdoor capacitor is faulty

  24. Hi all.
My unit can operate normally. But when turn on the HEALTH/IONIZER (icon will change to green). After a few second the unit will reset all the display and turn off the operation. Seriously when i tried to turn it on again the reset button on the unit will trip and i need to push the button. But if the unit operate without Health function there is no problem.

  25. Hi sifu2. If u could help me here, i have the york unit for 3 years now. It blows cool air for 15min or so.. then its change to .. like a fan air with blinking orange. 3 continuous blink with a pause. Anyone could help me?

    1. Haha i am no Sifu ...just doing it on my own...but that usually caused by the sensor issue...try this simple trick ..plug out the power cable for 10 seconds and put back in and turn on your air cond...other solution you could try

      1. clean the filter
      2. it could also some electronic board fault like this York stop working
      3. Worst case is indoor unit capacitor or the outdoor unit capacitor is faulty - but it rarely happens

      Delete
    2. Done the filter. And i bought some spray cleaning can (no chemical) which i use every few months to clean the cooling fin. Change the remote battery. Knock the black cable. Blinking just keep coming back

      Delete
    3. Battery remote usually got nothing to do with the aircond behaving that way...since it goes to yellow it must be some electronic parts to cause it blink the orange light.

Usually when the orange light blink the outdoor unit starting to shut off - because the indoor unit cannot pass the 240 volt current to it...

If you know how to troubleshoot in detail should would be good. But you need some experience and multimeter. I learn this myself the hard way because i don't like the technician come and fix the wrong thing and then charge very expensive - this use to happen many times in the past. So i thought it need to stop.

      3 ways to troubleshoot.

      1. Check unit multimeter (AC volt measure) the live and ground or live and neutral cable that connect to the outdoor unit - if it measure 230 to 240 volt when the aircond start to get orange light. If the voltage way less like only 7 volt or so that mean the indoor unit is the cause of the problem.

      2. Or you can direct connect cable to the outdoor unit to direct to power plug and turn on and see if it constantly on all the time. -- if yes then the indoor unit is the problem.

      3. Check any electrical path on the circuit board if they wear out like mine the blinking LED goes bad cause the aircond not working...just because the circuit board of the LED light corroded due to chemical reaction from the aircond cooling system.

      4. Change the sensor i think it cost not so expensive like RM30 or RM40 only

  28. Do a couple of time take out the power plug for 1 minute or 2 and put back try again. If this method doesn't work for a couple of time than your outdoor unit may need service...probably the power capacitor in the outdoor unit is faulty

  29. Already done my service on my air con but the orange light still blinking. Wat can i do??

    1. Take out the power plug for 15 seconds and put back in and try the air cond again...do this few time until it works...if it does not work until the 4 time its time to call your technician because the sensor might be faulty
